SR35. Sears Merry Mushroom Ceramic Spice Shaker – 1976 Japan – Blue Discoloration

An original 1976 Sears Merry Mushroom ceramic spice shaker, made in Japan as part of Sears’ collectible Merry Mushroom kitchenware collection. This tall individual shaker was designed to fit the original wooden Merry Mushroom spice rack and makes a great replacement piece for an incomplete set.

The creamy off-white ceramic body features the familiar vertically textured surface and colorful raised Merry Mushroom decoration. A large orange mushroom with dark brown spots is surrounded by dimensional green foliage and accompanied by a smaller glossy brown mushroom. The oversized mushroom-cap top is finished in graduated golden yellow and deep brown tones with dispensing holes and a small mushroom detail at the crown.

The underside retains the Sears, Roebuck and Co. 1976 marking as well as its original JAPAN sticker.

The ceramic is structurally in very good condition with no chips or cracks noted. There is, however, a noticeable area of pale blue/blue-green discoloration or staining around the lower portion of the shaker, particularly near the base. The source of the discoloration is unknown, and we have not attempted to attribute it to a particular cause. Please examine the photographs closely, as the staining is shown from multiple angles.

Despite the discoloration, this remains an attractive original Merry Mushroom piece and would work well as a replacement in an original spice rack or as part of a retro mushroom kitchen display.
