This beautiful Westmoreland Glass hen on nest covered dish features a striking combination of blue and white slag glass, giving a familiar Westmoreland design a much more unusual and colorful appearance. The swirling variation created by the two glass colors makes this piece especially interesting, with no two areas looking exactly alike.
The two-piece covered dish features a detailed hen resting on a basket-style nest. The hen is primarily white with rich blue slag concentrated around the head and neck, gradually blending into the white body. Additional variations and streaks of color can be seen throughout the glass. The coordinating nest displays considerably more blue, with lighter white slag visible through portions of the glass.
Wonderful molded details cover the entire piece. Individual feathers are visible along the hen’s breast, wings, and tall tail, while the nest features a classic woven basket pattern finished with a beaded border around the rim. Together, the texture and bold coloration make this an especially attractive display piece.
As with slag glass, the distribution of color is naturally irregular. Areas that appear lighter, darker, streaked, or mottled are part of the character of the glass rather than a painted surface. This particular example has a great contrast between the predominantly white hen and vibrant blue nest.
There is some age-related surface wear, discoloration, and residue visible in the photographs, particularly around some of the recessed details and contact areas. Please review the close-up photos carefully for the best representation of condition.
