L.E. Smith Moon & Star Colonial Blue Glass Handled Basket – Footed Ruffled Bowl

This cheerful Colonial Blue Moon & Star glass basket is one of those pieces that looks beautiful from almost every angle. Its wide, crimped rim folds into soft waves beneath a graceful arched handle, and the raised moon circles and little starbursts really pop when light shines through the bright blue glass.

The basket is attributed to L.E. Smith Glass, which produced a range of Moon & Star pressed-glass forms in the twentieth century. The pattern has much older roots in the nineteenth-century Palace design by Adams & Company. The basket form combines those familiar moon-and-star details with a decorative foot and starburst design beneath the base. It's a lovely addition to a Moon & Star collection, but also makes a charming display piece on a shelf, table, or vanity.

Use it for lightweight wrapped candies or simply display it on its own to enjoy the color and sculptural shape. We especially like how the curved handle frames the patterned bowl below.
